Description
The Fardriver ND series Hall one-line pass-through controller is a high-end high-power permanent magnet synchronous motor controller with the advantages of high quality, high efficiency, and intelligence. It is suitable for vehicle applications of various Hall motors. It is suitable for middle and high speed motorcycles with in-wheel motors, mid drive
motors, and high-end electric tricycles. Using high-quality fully imported MOS core, full metal shielding and aluminium die heat dissipation structure, the hardware architecture and software implementation are perfectly matched and refined.
Overview
- Voltage range: compatible with 48V-72V (13S-20S nominal) Li-ion battery.
- Maximum input voltage: 88 V.
- Maximum battery current: 350 A.
- Maximum phase current: 680 A.
- Product Size: 189 x 121 x 60mm.
- Waterproof: IP67.
- Net Weight: 1,94 kgs.
Motor Drive Type
- Sine‐wave / sinusoidal driving of BLDC motors (for smoother, quieter operation).
- Hall‐sensor compatibility.
Communication & Programming Interfaces
- **Bluetooth** via a dongle for programming / tuning via an app (iOS & Android).
- **CANBUS** support: allows more extensive data exchange between the controller and display or other peripherals.
- Also supports “One‐Line” protocol for display compatibility in certain setups.
Protection Features
- Over‐voltage protection.
- Over‐current protection.
- Overheating / thermal protection.
Physical / Hardware Features
- Robust heat dissipation via aluminium heat sink casing.
- Different physical variants (flat plate, finned) to suit mounting and cooling needs.
Adjustment & Tuning
- Wireless tuning via Bluetooth: users can adjust parameters via app.
- Curves / throttle response tuning (eco / balanced / aggressive modes).
Compatible displays
- Chaojie SCJ313 3.1 Inch Display with CAN.
- Chaojie SCJ-5D Speedometer TFT.
NOTE: Controller with CANBUS enabled transmits more info to display (speed, current, battery voltage, motor phase current, motor temperature). Controller with only One‐Line communication (no CAN) transmits only speed, speed mode and battery voltage.
Regenerative braking (energy recovery)
- The controller supports **energy feedback / regenerative braking** and has configurable parameters for it (e.g. *stop-reflux* and *maximum-reflux* — i.e. settle/regain charge current & peak regen).
- Regen can be triggered in multiple ways: **brake lever (E-brake) input**, **throttle-release (follow)** modes, or via a dedicated momentary switch in DIY installs — community forum posts and tutorial videos show using throttle-back behavior, brake contact, or a momentary regen switch. Practical setup (and variable regen levels) is commonly done via the Bluetooth/app.
- Regen effectiveness depends on the battery/BMS being able to accept charge current (check battery charge current limit), and you must enable electronic-brake/regeneration in the controller settings and set the stop & max reflux currents.
Multi-ride / speed modes (Three-speed gear)
- The ND72680 provides **three-speed (high / mid / low) mode** configurable via parameters (each mode adjusts phase & line current ratios so you can have “eco”, “balanced”, and “sport” behavior).
Electronic brake (E-brake)
- Hardware inputs for low-voltage and high-voltage brake signals are present; the controller can perform **electronic braking** when these signals are asserted and will use the configured regen current limits. (Wiring pins for low/high brake and the behavior are documented in the manual).
Cruise / cruise input
- The wiring diagram and pinout include a **Cruise** input pin (and the harness exposes a cruise/boost pin). The firmware/app exposes cruise behaviour in many installs.
Throttle / response & custom ride tuning
- Extensive throttle tuning is available: **acceleration sensitivity (throttle accel), throttle thresholds, throttle curves, “free throttle” / follow modes**, etc., all configurable via the Bluetooth app (parameters like acceleration sensitivity (16–224) are optional). These let you tune how punchy or soft the bike feels.
Field weakening / speed expansion (higher top speed mode)
- The controller supports **weak-field (flux weakening) speed expansion**, allowing you to push motor RPM beyond base constant speed by changing current-limit parameters. Useful for getting higher top speed at the cost of torque/efficiency.
PID / vector control and motor matching
- The ND series uses vector control with tunable **PID and motor characteristic parameters (AN, LM, Start/Mid/Max PID sets)** so the controller can be tailored to hub vs mid drive motors.
CAN / One-line telemetry & Bluetooth programming
- The controller supports **CANBUS** (for richer display/telemetry) and **One-Line** / pulse speedometer outputs. Plug-in Bluetooth module allows live monitoring and parameter editing from phone apps.
Protection & diagnostics (affects modes)
- Under-voltage, over-current, thermal protection, buzzer alarms, and fault codes are all implemented; these protections interact with regen & ride modes (e.g., under-voltage can reduce power output or disable regen depending on settings).
